lecture: How broken is TLS?

The most important crypto protocol

Heartbleed

TLS had various problems recently. The BEAST attack, the CRIME attack, the Lucky Thirteen attack, problems with RC4 and of course Heartbleed. Standards from the NSA aren't trustworthy any more. Where is TLS today and what improvements are planned?

TLS or SSL is the most important and most used encryption protocol. We use HTTPS connections daily to communicate, transfer money or to shop.

TLS has problems on all different layers. Software implementations are of bad quality and far too bloated, certificate authorities are a hughe problem, weak cryptography endangers security and the protocol itself has various vulnerabilities.
